November 10, 2026 marks the 116th anniversary of the NAACP's journal The Crisis founded by W.E.B. DuBois.

2026 In Crisis is a powerful, immersive performance event that explores the struggles, triumphs, and voices of the present through the lens of early African American literature and visual art. Inspired by the formative years of The Crisis magazine, the event centers on a full performance of Georgia Douglas Johnson’s groundbreaking anti-lynching play Safe, staged as an intimate, up-close theatrical experience. The performance is followed by a moderated discussion of the work of John Henry Adams, Jr., an illustrator for The Crisis whose striking imagery appeared on early magazine covers and in influential political cartoons, inviting continued reflection and community dialogue.
